A small exploration firm looking for gold in a touchy spot in Southwest Alaska has more than doubled its mining claims in the area. This summer, Spokane, Wash.-based Gold Crest Mines Inc. began drilling on state land in the mountains around Kisaralik Lake, prompting alarm from villagers along the Kuskokwim River who use the area for subsistence hunting and fishing.
